The Mistake Waltz Masterclass

Date: Saturday 27 July 2024

Location: Acosta Dance Foundation, 1 Artillery Square, Woolwich, SE18 6BH

Time: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Level: Intermediate +

What to expect:

Join us for an exciting ballet workshop led by the talented Lucinda Strachan of the English National Ballet. In this 3-hour session, we'll delve into the enchanting Mistake Waltz by Jerome Robbins, a unique piece renowned for its playful and humorous elements. Lucinda will guide us through a step-by-step breakdown of the original choreography, outlining the ‘shape’ of the piece before we add our own flavour and style through comedic gestures and ‘mistakes.’

In addition to learning a very fun routine, this masterclass is an opportunity to practice not taking our ballet practice too seriously! Here ‘mistakes’ are what define the piece. So have fun adding your personality and interpretation to the movements. This is a really great masterclass to work on an often unexplored aspect of our performance quality as dancers - making the audience laugh. Come along for a really fun day!

Please note: The 3-hour masterclass will include a barre/warm-up at the beginning and the opportunity for a mini performance/showcase at the end. This masterclass is held at the Acosta Dance Foundation which is less than 4 minutes walk from Woolwich station on the Elizabeth line.
