Adults Intermediate Ballet Classes

Intermediate Ballet Technique Class

This class is all about working smarter and not just harder; it is designed to challenge you, whilst also providing a safe space to ask questions and receive feedback and corrections. The lesson includes barre and centre work, in the typical format of an open class. But it also includes key focal steps each month, these are included in different choreography and centre combinations each week. This provides an opportunity to slowly break down and practice some of ballet's more challenging steps. We work towards faster and cleaner transfers of weight, better balance, coordination, stamina and functional alignment. The centre exercises gradually piece together these new movements into longer and more complex combinations; embedding them into our muscle memory and enhancing ballet knowledge and terminology.

The selection of key focal steps each month enables students to target key areas and better track improvement. By incorporating some elements of repetition into classes, adults are provided with structured learning and progression in the same way they might experience if they were children taking graded exams or pre-professional vocational work. This approach underpins our teaching methodology at London Ballet Classes and has proven to be a highly effective strategy for teaching adults, whilst also keeping classes versatile and challenging enough to be fun! Please note: This lesson complements our Intermediate Variation class because the selected focal steps are inspired by the variation of the month.

Intermediate Ballet Variation Class

Sundays, 6.30 - 8pm at The Place Dance Studios

16 Flaxman Terrace, (Studio 4), Kings Cross, London, WC1H 9AT

Join us at The Place, world famous dance studios, for an evening of inspiring movement and work towards learning famous variations and corps de ballet choreography from iconic classical ballets. We teach one routine every four weeks, giving students the time to develop skill, technique and artistry. We teach the variation exactly as the professionals do it, so you can challenge yourself and dance to your heart's content! In Week 4, students can choose to showcase what they have learnt and perform as a solo or in a small group (optional).

Many adults are fixated on progression and believe they can only enjoy their dancing once they have achieved technical mastery. We are passionate about challenging this narrative - it is our goal to encourage students to dance expressively and emotively at every stage of their dance journey! We aim to introduce every adult to professional repertoire; instilling a deep appreciation for ballet as an art form as opposed to just a sport. Of course our classes promote technical accuracy and advancement, but they also gently encourage you to develop your stage presence, performance quality and musicality. We are here to nurture your unique, individual style and expression and invite you to come to this class and really dance with us, not just train with us!
